Between the Left Behind movie series, big selling apocalyptic books, and end-of-the-world Christian radio pundits, the Christian notion of the rapture has become fantastically popular. No one would guess that this upstart doctrine is only 179 years old. Now that may seem like an antique to some, but in light of the fact that church history spans twenty centuries, a 19th century doctrine is a spring chicken. But, just because the idea that Christ will come to rapture the church to heaven for seven years is young, does that automatically make it wrong? Of course not. Ultimately, as Christians, the Bible is our source for making such determinations, though we would have to admit that any doctrine that eluded the church for eighteen centuries should be subjected to the most rigorous testing.
Author and speaker, Delroy Gayle of London is our guide to discuss the history and biblical support for the pre-tribulation rapture. He has done his homework, and confidently explains where the idea came from, why it is incorrect, and what we should believe instead. Guess what. If you can figure out when the “sudden destruction” of wicked persons takes place in I Thess. 5:3, and when “death” is ended in I Cor. 15:54, you will know where to place the rapture on your prophecy chart because those passages talk about the “times and seasons” (and the “when” and “then” ) of the rapture! Neat, huh?
No man knows the time or hour, not even the angels, but the father only. The rapture can’t be predicted.
Jesus talks about not knowing the EXACT time of his parousia [day, hour, second, cp. Mat 24.44]. But in his preaching of the end times in Mat 24 its all about informing the reader of the “signs of the end”.
The “lesson of the Fig Tree” metaphor is indicative of this fact, where Jesus moves from describing future events to dealing with the attitudes that should characterize his followers as they prepare for the end (vv. 32–35), knowing that his return is imminent (vv. 36–41).
So, it is clear that no one can predict the exact time of his coming, but Christians who adhere to biblical prophecy and correctly interpret its meanings should be able to see the signs coming. Hence, prepare for the end and not to be caught off guard [as it were]:
“See, I have told you beforehand…From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.” Mat 24.25, 32-33

Hmmm? Interesting, but not convincing when it comes to the post-trib belief. Not to be redundant with some of the verses that are referred to, but…..I Thessalonians 1:10 (“…even Jesus which delivered us from the wrath to come”.), I Thessalonians 5:9 (“God has not appointed us to wrath, but to salvation), Romans 5:9 (“…we shall be saved from the wrath through him), John 3:36 (“He that believes on the Son has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him”). Look at the simplicity of Romans 10:9 — we confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and believe from our hearts that God raised him from the dead….”you SHALL BE SAVED”!! Saved from what?!! Saved from the wrath to come…which is God’s wrath upon the world! Sean, you should look back in your life and what you have learned over the years. Not all was error from the glory years of the Ohio ministry). You, as a born again Christian, has the ability to discern Truth from error. Using the principles, like, the Word says what it means and means what it says is first and foremost, and it’s not what people say what they think the Word means…. it’s what the Word says! Did you ever stop and think what the terms “being saved, salvation, and eternal life” mean? There’s a reason. Saved from what? Salvation from what? What is God’s wrath upon the world? It all equates to the Book of Revelation…the 7 years of tribulation. II Thessalonians 2:3 states that “a falling away” (in earlier texts this term is referred to as “a departure first”!! THEN that man of sin be revealed. We will not be here when the antichrist is revealed. We will have been departed first! II Thessalonians 2:13– “…God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirti and belief of the Truth”!! Salvation from what?–Salvation and being set apart from the wrath to come! I Thessalonians 3:13– “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Fahter, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH ALL HIS SAINTS”. Look again at I Thessalonians 4:17 — “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds”. Both those that are dead and those that are alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds. True–the second coming is Christ’s second coming to earth..to the world to establish the millenium Kingdom. The “departure” of the saints, commonly referred to as the rapture is not Christ’s second coming, for we are gathered up to meet him in the air. The seven years of tribulation is a time, as stated in the Word as the worst time that ever was. Have you researched II Thessalonians 2:6-7?– In verse 6 the word “withholdeth” is the Greek word katecho, which more accurately is translated as “to restrain” or “to prevent”. In verse 7, the word “letteth” is also the Greek word katecho with the same meaning. The context is referring to God’s Holy Spirit, including the holy spirit that is intricately a part of every believer is what is restraining or preventing certain events from happening…. those certain events is the 7 year tribulation. The seven year timeframe is a biblically founded timeframe. When light is removed from darkness, we have complete and utter darkness (both from spiritual sense and a natural sense of understanding. So long as we as believing saints are in this world, there is light. Jude 14– “…the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints to execute judgment upon all…”. Who are the saints that are spoken of here? From a biblical standpoint, when Christ comes back as King of kings and Lord of lords, who will be with Christ? Based on the foregoing, I don’t buy into the mid-trib or post-trib belief system, just as I don’t buy the trinity concept. How can people claim that the pre-trib truth was only discovered in the 1830s, when this has been clearly and logically a part of the Word all along? A good verse to conclude is II Thessalonians 2:15, wherein it states, “…standfast and hold the instructions which you have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle”. For those who have and hold within the depths of their heart that Jesus Christ is their Lord and believe that the only True God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Father of our Lord Christ Jesus, raised him from the dead, God does not appoint you to the wrath to come. We will be taken out of the way. The signs that have been foretold are more prevalent now than ever before. Most of the prophecies have been fullfilled, all with the exception of Christ coming for the saints and those outlined in the Books of Daniel and Revelation, have been fullfilled. The major one is the establishment of Israel in May 1948. Christ stated that “this generation shall not pass until all be fullfilled. Look at what’s left.

I think no matter if you are pre -mid- or post tribulation rapture we all agree we will not suffer God’s wrath. The thing is what do you believe the first part of the tribulation is-is it God bringing the destruction , clalamity or Satan instructing all his minions and the anti-Christ? Whether we believe pre trib or mid- or post, all the conversations we have had at my store -His Way Christian Store(except for those who thought I was heathen for not bring a pre trib believer) we all agree we need to work like crazy in case He is coming “tonight” bringing more into the kingdom, and on the other hand if we will go through horrible times-even to the point of martyrdom, we need to be STRONG in the faith not wishy washy, but strong enough to bring others along in faith, not just barely getting through it ourselves. We need to know how to minister to those who are PRE TRIB-AND HERE IS NOTHING ELSE. How will they manage-where will their faith be when they realize they were wrong in their belief. God Bless us all.
Excellent interview and format! I have downloaded the mp3 and have listened on the way back and forth to work. I totally agree with what was said, and would add this to help open other peoples minds:
The timing of the rapture occurs at the “last day”, the same “last day” that Jesus talked about in John 6:39-44 & John 6:53-54.There is a lot that happens on the last day, including one of the resurrections, and the proof is that we do not precede the dead in Christ according to 1st Thessalonians 4:13-17. Paul says “the dead in Christ shall rise first”, which is great comfort to those who have lost loved ones. Even Martha knew when the “last day” would occur, she tells Jesus plainly in John 11:23-24 as pertaining to her dead brother and when she would see him again: “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day”.
As for me and my house, we are awaiting in hope for the “LAST DAY”!!!
